How much revenue could the 100MWh line generate?

  • QuantumScape plans to build a 100MWh production line, expected to begin production in 2028, primarily serving the data center, aerospace and defense markets. It has also signed an agreement with Muehlbauer to cooperate on cell assembly equipment.
  • Evercore ISI assumes the line will start production at the end of 2028 and take about two more years to reach full capacity. At a selling price of 700 to 1300 dollars per kilowatt-hour, it estimates annualized revenue potential of 70 million to 130 million dollars once full capacity is reached in 2030. This figure depends on the capacity ramp and selling prices.
  • The company has launched PowerBlock for energy storage inside AI data center racks and says feedback on demand from customer discussions has been positive, but it has not disclosed specific customers or contracts with named customers.

How will the line be funded?

  • The company said on its conference call that capital expenditure for the new line will be less than 100 million dollars and that it is seeking financing that will not dilute shareholders’ equity. Specific terms and capital expenditure requirements under the equipment cooperation agreement have not been disclosed.
  • As the company has not provided long-term capital expenditure guidance, Evercore ISI expects to leave its forecast of approximately 50 million dollars per year unchanged until non-dilutive financing becomes clearer.

What progress has been made in automotive and other businesses?

  • The automotive business billed Honda for the first time and signed an agreement with an unnamed global mobility manufacturer; the customer is not among the world’s top ten automakers. Volkswagen and its PowerCo are coordinating with QuantumScape on a long-term joint technology platform beyond QSE-5; the company did not update its production timeline for the automotive business.
  • The aerospace and defense business generated its first customer billings, and QSE-5 samples were shipped to defense, aviation and telecommunications customers. Eagle Line is fully operational and QSE-5 output has increased, but the company did not quantify progress toward its earlier goal of doubling second-half output from the first half.
  • The company plans to update its subsequent technology roadmap for QSE-5 in Kyoto on 11 November.

How did third-quarter results and the institutional assessment compare?

  • Third-quarter adjusted EBITDA loss was 61 million dollars, compared with a consensus loss of 70 million dollars; adjusted EBIT loss was 76 million dollars, also better than the consensus loss of 82 million dollars. Loss per share was 0.14 dollars, below the consensus estimate of 0.17 dollars.
  • Evercore ISI believes the stock’s 15% after-hours rise was broadly justified: the stock had fallen 22% in the preceding month, while the new line plan provided a clearer direction for development after 2026. The firm maintained its In Line rating and 7 dollar price target.
